Main purpose of job: This role will support upstream UK-Hungarian cooperation to counter irregular migration and human trafficking and support judicial and law enforcement cooperation. You will be responsible for building a network of contacts with the Hungarian and UK government departments and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). As part of the Embassy’s Policy Team, the Officer will report to the UK-diplomat leading on JHA-SOC. You will lead policy development in these areas to support the UK’s interests, security and prosperity, and deliver the Embassy’s Country Plan JHA and SOC policy objectives. Roles and responsibilities: Policy Delivery: In support of UK interests in JHA and SOC policy, you will monitor and report on related developments (e.g. irregular migrations trends and legislation) in Hungary, providing policy analysis for colleagues within the Embassy and in London. You will support engagement and lobbying of the Hungarian authorities on behalf of the UK Government on matters of internal security, law enforcement and judicial cooperation. The jobholder will act as the secretariat for the Embassy’s quarterly Joint Serious Organised Crime (JSOC) committee meetings, setting up the meetings, taking notes and drafting and submitting reports to London.Strategic Relationship Management: You will proactively build a network of stakeholders across Hungarian and UK governments, institutions and civil society. You will represent the UK’s position and act in support of UK policy objectives. You will build strong working relationships within the embassy, working closely with the National Crime Agency and His Majesty’s Revenue & Customs Liaison Officers. You will represent the Embassy at relevant lectures and conferences and participate in the network of JHA and SOC Officers in British Embassies across Europe.Project Management: you will design and deliver impactful projects in support of Embassy JHA-SOC policy objectives, delivered internally or by external project partners. You will manage the project procedures in line with FCDO guidance, ensuring value for money as well as concrete and sustainable outcomes. Project management training will be provided.Visits and Events: you will arrange embassy-hosted events and visits related to your portfolio. You will prepare the Ambassador, Deputy Ambassador and visiting senior officials or Ministers for external events by providing lines to take and draft speeches. You will represent the Embassy at external briefings, receptions and conferences.Staff Community and Crisis Preparedness: you will play an active role in contributing to embassy life, from joining one of the staff committees, to supporting learning and development for yourself and for colleagues, to preparing for and playing a role in any embassy crisis exercise or crisis response.
